Steal this idea

Just because something looks really expensive doesn't necessarily mean it has to be.  Check out this gorgeous, totally custom looking modern buffet in HGTV designer Peter Fallico's home.

Peter Fallico's Customized IKEA Buffet from Style at Home

Want to recreate this look?  Here's how (minus the end shelving units which I'm not really a fan of):

Start with two of these IKEA Besta wall shelf units.  Set them on a platform like in the above image for added height or add a toe kick around it for a totally built-in look.

Add four of these Besta Vara doors in white.  The inspiration image has matte doors which the Vara are but I like these Tofta high gloss style doors even better...they're 5x the price though so maybe matte is just fine ;)

Finish the doors with two of these Chinese "Happiness" character brass cabinet face plates.

What really takes the buffet in the inspiration photo to a whole other level is the marble top.  I don't know the price on what that would run but without it you're only up to $248.58 so you definitely have some wiggle room in there!

Isn't it amazing how something like really special hardware can make even an IKEA cabinet look expensive?

Finish off the entire vignette by leaning two of these IKEA Stave mirrors side by side on top of the buffet.

The ladies at O'verlays would be more than happy to whip up some custom sized fretwork panels for you to put on the mirror and really complete the look.  Custom orders average just $12/sq ft.

Here's a handy little reference guide for you to pin!

Tuesday Tour

I stumbled across this beautiful house tour on apartment therapy today and just had to share.  Since August I have been "cheating on fashion with furniture" and scouring the net for inspiration images.  These are definitely getting saved in my favorites folder.  I am loving the calmness of the neutral colors with just a touch of personality.  And of course my favorite color.... gray!

Ill be sharing pictures of our progress at our lovely abode soon.

xoxo

Will and Jada's Malibu Home

Will and Jada's home is featured in Architectual Digest this month.  WOW Factor all over.  What a gorgeous home with the perfect mix of traditional with eclectic.  I think I could wake up to this every day.

Desert Retreat

I'm stil feeling fresh off our vacation to Big Bend National Park.  I wonder what it would be like to have a desert retreat in the middle of nowhere.  A true retreat with no internet, shopping malls within a 5 mile radius, and the hustle and bustle that comes with city life.

I am in love with this desert retreat by Kara Mann.  Proof that being in the middle of nowhere can still be luxurious!

A collection of sorts

I dont know if it is the royal wedding fever or just the sweetness of a tiara/crown that has me itching to start collecting such fine pieces.

I do not collect anything.  Mr. Curiosity and I are quite the minimalists but I do think a home would have so much character with a few of these thrown about here and there.

What do you think?  Is there anything you collect for display?

Royal Wedding Mania

With the royal wedding just 2 days away I'm eyeing some last minute memorabilia that are still interior chic and sure to be something to treasure for quite some time.

favorite room

People often ask me, "If you could live in one room of your house, which would it be?"  Easy....my master bedroom.  With crisp white sheets, sitting area, vanity, and an uber organized closet, I dont think a girl could wish for more. Do any of you have a favorite room in your house?

mirror mirror on the wall

I have a bit of an obsession with mirrors.  I plan on doing a home tour post soon and you will see exactly why.  Just came home from a trip to home goods where I found myself biting my upper lip in resistance to yet another purchase.  The hubs would truly have a fit if I came with another one.  So, a blog post to resist the urge and get the creative juices flowing.

Pottery Barn.  Ive been obsessed with this mirror for well over a year.

Wisteria.  Love mixing bold pieces like this with sharp and clean modern lines.

If you know me, you know I am IN LOVE with Chevron anything.  There is a sense of modern to it but not too cold and not too stark.  I love how chevron prints can be played masculine or feminine, glamorous, yet refined.

Bachelor Pad Love

Loved this house tour posted on Apartment Therapy today.  What a great mix of modern with natural materials to create a cozy bachelor pad.
