Hermes guide to transitional scarves

Photobucket
..... nothing like a super chic silk scarf knotted as a top pair it with cute linen white shorts, some espadrilles and ginormous glasses... or if you are feeling boho-chic, adding that colorful scarf as a bandana totally completes your look! The third version of Hermes knotted cards came out this Spring and unfortunately you can't get them at their store anymore, but you can try to get this season or even try for vintage cards {totally a collectors item} from previous seasons on Ebay! Now dahlings, get your scarfs out...!!

25 ways to wear a scarf

As the cool weather approaches you can bet I will be pulling out my pashminas.  Those of you who know me, know this is a staple in my wardrobe and I can be found wearing these even in our hot Texas summers.

Found this great video on how to get creative with your pashminas.  Enjoy!

xoxo

Marrakech Moment

Lately I have been cheating on fashion with furniture as I get our new place in order.  But, tonight I stumbled upon this spread from Harper's Bazaar (old issue) and I am loving this laid back but classic, ethnic style.  This could all easily be transferred to inspiration for interiors.

A Faithful Servant

This past week I learned of the passing of one of my dear friends Sunday Ibok.  I have been overcome with sadness this entire week with conflicted feelings of joy that I, along with many others had been so lucky to have known him.  With an infectious personality, giving heart as big as Texas, and a fierce sense of style Sunday will forever live in my heart.

Friends have shared one of the final conversations he had, in regards to a message he had heard in church that morning which covered the portion of the Lord's prayer, "His kingdom come." Sunday began telling us of his dreams of bringing heaven to earth. He also told us that for the first time in his life he was truly happy and confident in his walk and had come to a place where God was enough. He said that if he never got married, or had children he would be content. The conversation ended with Sunday saying that he feels his life has been fulfilled and that if God was to call him home 'tomorrow' he would be joyful with how far he has come. We rest in confidence that this is Gods mercy shows in helping to prepare his heart and our hearts for today. He certainly is a good God and we hope that this story will bring you comfort and faith tonight. God is our rock and we stand in praise of his goodness even in tragedy.

I will never forget what an amazing man and friend Sunday was.  His caring spirit is one that will never be forgotten.  With his passing has come a reevaluation of life.  Through the blur of an insanely busy job, graduate school, and being a wife I am forcing myself to slow down and enjoy the little things (i.e getting up at 5:30 am this morning to have a cup of morning joe, rather than scurrying out the door with a breakfast bar in hand, hoping I will have enough time to swing through the Starbucks drive through).

Sunday's last tweet was simply the word "FAITHFUL" and I can't think of better word to sum him up as a human being and as a friend.  100% of the profits of this print will be sent to Sunday's family to help with expenses.www.friendsofsunday.com

Sunday,
We all miss you dearly and I know you are in heaven with our Creator while He welcomes you declaring "Well done, good and faithful servant..."  As your friend Howland has said, "We know he loved you until the end."

With Love,
Jade

AIA Homes Tour

This weekend the hubs and I attended the AIA homes tour here in Austin.  We could not have asked for better weather while strolling some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city.

The tour features 15 private homes ranging from 1,000-7,000 square feet and diverse in renovation to new construction.  The homes are A-MAZING!  And what I especially love about them is that most of them are practical.  We have done the parade of homes tour in the past, and while those homes are amazing as well they are impractical and will probably always be on the "dream list".  I am able to take ideas from the AIA home tour and apply them in my home now.

Take a looksy at the pictures below to get a sense of the practicality.

Oakville show home

Canadian House and Home is by far my favorite interior design magazine.  Its a bit difficult to find here in Austin, but when I can track one down, it does not disappoint.  Their new show home in the Oakville area is one  not to miss.  Wish I could be there to see the beauty.  Friends and family in the TO area, please let me know if you get a chance to stop by!

Labor Day in Texas

Just a quick post to say this is what we came home to this weekend.  Wildfires completely surround the Austin metro area with the largest fire in Bastrop, which has burned 400 homes and is 0% contained.  Please keep central Texas in your prayers for rain and low winds.

CL Love

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  We moved August 1 and today is our first day of internet.  I never realized how much I relied on this thing!

So, speaking of moving we are moved and unpacked, but not even close to settled.  There is a lot of work to be done around our Norwood Bungalow and you can bet I am scouring Craigs List every single day.  I even have an app on my android where I can save my searches and it alerts me when a new item is posted. Ah... technology!

I was doing an inventory of our house the other day and came to realize we have a LOT of stuff from Craigs List.  Something I will say I am very proud of, since every time I get tired of a piece of furniture I can sell it back on CL for what I bought it for or even more.  Its an even trade!

Here is a quick peak at what is from CL in our little home.... (please excuse the "unstaged" look.  We will be settled in soon!)
Four hands leather sofa- $500

black filing cabinet- $15

Ikea Docksta table- $20
Italian leather chairs- $5 each

72" console table.  Custom made at Up Country with an attached receipt of $1200!!!  -$95

Glass and metal console table- $10

Custom made for special friends

Sadly, last week was my last at my wonderful job at the Children's Hospital.  I was presented with an opportunity I couldn't pass up, so away I go on a new adventure starting August 1.

During my time at the Children's Hospital I had two wonderful managers, each with their own unique style or grooming and mentoring me.  I wanted to get them both something to say "thank you" but couldn't think of the perfect gift.  Yes, a bottle of wine and flowers would have been great but I just wasn't satisfied with that.  So, of course, in true Mrs. Curiosity fashion I had to take on a new project which my husband kept saying to me, "Are you sure you have time to do this?"  My answer, "I dont have to time to breathe some days, but somehow I make time."

So, on with making 2 fabulous leather clutches for 2 fabulous friends.  Read on to see the step by step and final product.
