Day 9

Yesterday was day 9 of our running adventures.

I noticed in the last post I didnt provide much detail about the dynamics of this running program.  So, the short of it is I am training for a 5k in April with 2 of my girlfriends, and my husband is our coach.  We hit the Austin trails at 5:30am 3 days a week and on our off days we cross train with a fitness exercise of our choice along with foot drills and injury prevention stretching.

So, for the best news...... Our goal for day 9 was to run for 12 minutes and walk 10 with a total fitness time of 35 minutes.  Wednesday morning was soooooo cold.  32 degrees.  I couldnt feel my fingers and I kept telling my girls my butt was numb.  But, perseverance must have been on our side because we ran continuously for 22 minutes.  On day 1 we could not run more than 10 minutes.  This is quite an improvement!  We have set our sights on a half marathon for the fall since we are confident the 5k will be a piece of cake for us in April.

Day 5

Day 5 of running and the weather was much warmer today than it had been at our early morning runs.  We usually run at 5:30am.  Since today was Saturday, I slept in and ran in the afternoon.  WHEW!  It was about 60 degrees but much too warm for a run.

The first half was grueling and I cussed my coach (my husband) the entire time.  But, when we turned around for the last half I got my second win and was determined to set a new extended time record.  In other words.....I ran for a continuous 15:25.  On days 1,2, 3, and 4 I was not able to run for more than 10 minutes.

The goal today was a set time of 45 minutes with 10 minutes running, 10 minutes walking.  The actual broke down as follows:

Interval 1:  8:30 running
Walking:   3 minutes
Interval 2:  8:30
Walking:  10 minutes
Interval 3:  15:25

And here is my calorie/meal meal breakdown for the day:  (dont judge, we have NO groceries in the house)

1 low fat yogurt
Breakfast Total:  360

Lunch Total:  815

working on my fitness

I contemplated for a long time if I would blog about the running journey my friends and I have embarked on.  The main reason being I am well aware I am a main stream 5'4" girl with small bones, no ass, and still able to fit into a size 2-4.

First of all, as a woman I have recognized that women come in all different shapes and sizes.  And I dont mean by what we eat.  I mean by the body structure God has graced us with.  I would love to have curves like Kim Kardashian but I know a dream like that will never come true without the miracle works of a great plastic surgeon!

I often have a very hard time talking to my close friends, let alone the public about getting in shape, weight loss, etc.  Just like curvier women have their insecurities, us size 2-4 girls have our insecurities too.  And when I talk about getting in shape and/or losing weight more often than not I am critized for being anorexic.  PLEASE!  I live in Texas, we have summer 9 months out of the year.  We live in little to no clothing.....enough said!

Since my wedding in 2007 I have put on 17 pounds.  If I keep that up I'll be too far gone before I know it. So, this fitness journey is about getting back to wedding weight, but most of all picking up the habit of a healthy lifestyle, healthy choices, and being the best woman I know I can be.

Keep tuned to the blog as I document my trials, tribulations, inch dropping and/or expanding, on this journey to set me up for a lifetime of healthy living.

Here are the stats:

Sex:  Female
Age:  26
Height:  5'4"
Weight:  127 (in the morning).  If I weight myself in the evening its more like 132.
Size:  2-4
Measurements:  31"(chest), 30"(waist), 37"(hips)

Goal:
5K in April 2011
Half Marathon in September 2011
lose 17 lbs.

HERE WE GO!
